Latest Expansion News 10/25/2025
We're excited to share an update on our expansion project!
Since acquiring the adjacent unit earlier this year, construction has been moving along nicely. We've completed all the framing for the walls and raised the ceiling by 6 inches to account for the grade difference along State Street. Work has also begun on the tunnel that will connect the new space with our existing museum, making it easy for visitors to explore both areas.
While we've experienced some delays due to permitting and supply issues, we're currently planning to open the new wing in April 2026. We appreciate your patience as we work to make this expansion something truly special.
So what can you look forward to? The new space will feature our Lionel Postwar Era trains and some fascinating examples of rare gauges that didn't quite make it in the marketplace. We're particularly excited to display Art's very rare Voltamp #2500 Pacific type steam locomotive along with its collection of freight and passenger cars. You'll also find an exhibition of classic railroad china and a small conference room for special programs.
A new layout is currently being built by The Train Shack, though it may not be quite ready for opening day. We'll keep you posted on its progress!
We can't wait to share this expanded space with you next spring. Stay tuned for more updates as we get closer to opening day!
